The Most Common Packaging Materials in the World

Packaging is one process that goes through different types of ways before reaching the destination. Many variables are a part of the process, and some of us don’t really pay much attention to it. Almost everything requires packaging and things may not get processed without the help of packaging. Based on the type of product, there are plenty of materials that are used for packaging and the costs vary accordingly. So, on the grounds of learning something new, here are some of the most common packaging materials used all around the world. Advances in material science as well as new technologies such as distributed computing has lead to a tremendous rise in variety of packing materials.

Paper and Paperboard

Both primary and secondary packaging materials utilise paper, and many products cannot be completed without the use of paper. When it comes to packaging, it has been used in a variety of fields and industries for numerous purposes. Paper bags, butcher paper, labels, kraft paper, and so on are some of its advantages. On the other hand, Paperboard also comes under a lot of uses, and some of them include food boxes, juice cartons, candy boxes, milk cartons, and so on. The main reason why manufacturing industries prefer Paperboard is because it is thicker and extremely durable, thus preventing damaging costs to a minimum.

Aluminium Packaging

Aluminium cans and containers are certain things that you would find all around stores and various other places. Through research, the Aluminium Association has certified that around 7 billion cans and containers are produced annually. This is also because of its drastic use in packaging for medical, food, cosmetic and various other industries. Foil packaging is the ideal choice in all these industries as it provides more than just safety.

HDPE and PET

Introduced by polyethylene, high-density polyethylene and polyethylene terephthalate are some efficient materials that can be used for packaging. They are extremely hard and rigid, thus opening the door for quality packaging. The overall structure that it promotes provides for an all-round quality experience that overpowers most of the other materials in the industry. Bottles and jugs are the most common type of uses for HDPE and PET.

Glass

Though the PE plastic market has taken over the glass packaging industry, it is still prevalent to a certain extent. The predominant use for the glass packaging industry is for alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Apart from them, there are not many uses for the material except for a handful of other sectors. But the central part of the material is that it can be recycled and that is highly required in this day and age. The process of recycling for glass does not affect the quality, as the product remains to be in good shape. Hence, these are some of the primary materials that are used for the process of packaging.
